update

well,S started therapy in october at the age of 22 months and March was the 6 th month mark. I forced my husband to analyse the situation. My reasonable goals were not being met. We have amazing support and resources here and we were able to manage 16 hours ABA.

My goal after intense research was more the better and to keep him in therapy ie engaged every waking min of the day.

The various programs he was working on were the standard, ones in ABA, matching, receptive labellling, block imitations, songs etc.Well, his improvements were so slow.. but each time I would ask them, how S is doing, I would get a great, he is great but... he is little disregulated, sometimes not intersted etc.

I work full time hence not be able to monitor all this closely except ABA notes but dad is able to see some of the sessions. Well, he did not like ABA and un like other kids screaming and shouting, he would just totatlly shut down, and start stimming, and avoiding them by not giving them eye contact etc.

I thought about this for months. Althought there is so much data for ABA, it just did not make sense especially since we are still struggling with S being in the stage 1/2 of the developmental stages. If a child is not regulated , what is the point of teaching him to match or do puzzles or for that matter to do receptive labels. He understood nothing.

Day after day, he kept doing the drills... do this, do this, ... my poor baby. he hated it,but the therapists saw a compliant happy boy who was disregulated and not interested. They would call him a happy boy because that was one of his stims!.. he would just giggle.

Anyway, after months of argument with my DH, ... well, the argument was that he was not progressing at a pace that we wanted. Why there had to be arguments, I never understood.
Did he like the pace of progress? NO
Did he like the fact the fact that S was not able to generalize? NO
then what were we arguing about?

Finally we decided that DIR /floor-time, is the way to go and although we were barely going to get 10 hours in a week, atleast the rest of the time , he will be able to spend being a two year old instead of doing drills which are of no use.
We have a nice agency and they just got to know S and now we are on vacation.

I am at peace now.I needed to have done this and given a shot to DIR. All they are going to do is play with him.How bad can it get.Screw the data and research.
\

This is what we have been doing for so many weeks, deciding ,what to do next ... interviewing agencies, sending emails out and finally settling on one agency for DIR.

I am going to give it atleast six months to see the progress.
